Dr. Kristi Kyle OB/GYN
Dr Kyle spent her childhood in the awe inspiring Haida Gwaii, then moved to Port Alberni for high school before having to transition to big city life to attend university. Dr Kyle definitely considers herself a West Coaster for life. Dr Kyle learned prairie winters are too cold and long while completing a five year surgical residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Saskatoon. As soon as possible Dr Kyle returned home to Vancouver Island to open practice in Nanaimo. Dr Kyle provides full scope care in Obstetrics and Gynecology, meaning she does everything from menopause, obstetrics, birth control, menses management, infertility and family planning both in her office and in the operating room at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
Dr Kyle believes women’s health care should be accessible, trauma informed and patient centred. Dr Kyle is invested in making sure that all patients, including her own mother and daughter will be able to access excellent women’s health care in Nanaimo, now and in the future. To ensure that as many care providers are as stellar as possible, Dr Kyle gives lectures and provides training for all levels of medical students, resident doctors, midwifery students and nurses in Dr Kyle’s office and in the hospital.
Dr Kyle and her colleague Dr Layton came up with Papapalooza to ensure as many people with cervixes as possible have access to the cancer prevention. Papapalooza won the Health Excellence award for a non profit from Doctors of BC in 2024. Now that home based self screening is available, Dr Kyle will turn her attentions towards increasing other access for womens’ health care to the community. Anyone got a fun name for a pop up IUD clinic?
